Port Elizabeth, South Africa: Official inauguration of World Cup stadium just around the corner

June 16 is the day we’ve all been waiting for: The new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in the South African city of Port Elizabeth will host its first sports event. This will be the first ‘sporting’ test for the 48,800-capacity stadium, it’s first encounter with the public being an Open Day held on June 7. This makes the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium the first new FIFA WM 2010 stadium to reach completion – more than a year ahead of the first World Cup kick-off. A real feather in the hat of hbm! Ideal conditions for six group matches, one quarter final and the match to decide third place, all of which will be held here.
